Weekly Report & Reflection #9

Voice Thread is a great tool that allows you to leave audio, text, or video comments on documents shared with a group of people. As you may have noticed there is a new page on my blog titled Voice Thread. This page is dedicated to talking about my experience using the tool. I also embedded the video of the Voice Thread that I had the opportunity to take part in. Check it out!

When considering the use of this tool for educational activities, I think that it can be beneficial. Sharing opinions and thoughts can really enhance the learning experience. That's exactly what ADED 1P32 is all about! We share our experiences and opinions through our blog posts every week to create a learning environment where we can all engage in educational discussions! I think a great benefit of listening to or reading peoples comments is that it brings insight into peoples different ideas. Also, this blog that I explored opened my eyes to how Voice Thread can be used in the classroom.

Still, I will not be introducing this tool to my personal learning environment. I am already an avid user of Google Docs and I think it is comparable to a tool like Voice Thread. Like this tool, Google Docs allows contributors to comment on documents to share their thoughts. I think the biggest differentiator between Voice Thread and other collective tools like Google Docs is the component of video and audio comments. I think if you're an auditory learner than Voice Thread will be extremely beneficial for you to incorporate into your PLE. If you are the type of person like me and don't feel comfortable posting audio or video comments a tool like Google Docs or Evernote is probably more suitable for your PLE. I don't see Voice Thread bringing any additional benefits to me personally as a learner. So, although I enjoyed exploring the tool I will not add it to my personal learning environment!

The technology scenarios that I explored in the textbook and spoke about in my previous post also restored my understanding of how important digital rights and responsibilities are. Scenarios involved things like inappropriate use of technology and overuse of technology. I think these scenarios not only touched on digital rights and responsibilities but also on the other elements of digital citizenship as well. Overuse of technology can relate to digital health and wellness too. I actually had the opportunity to explore issues relating to overuse of technology in the collaborative group project I was part of. In exploring all of these elements I've found that each of the nine elements have significance and importance in becoming a great digital citizen.

Continuing to explore my Feedly read on a weekly basis I find so many great articles. Since this course has involved blogging every week, Blogging...It Ain't Easy...Or Is it?! 10 Tips To Successfully Launching Your Brand, grabbed my attention. If any of you have enjoyed blogging or already blog, Jillian Harris gives great tips on how to be a successful blogger. One of her tips was linking, which is something we've practiced with our ADED blogs to link the tools we mention in our posts.

  1. Hi Brooke!

Great post this week. I do enjoy using Google Docs or Evernote better than VoiceThread just because I do not feel comfortable speaking comments or even visually through videos.

I also liked your article from your feedly reader! It's always cool to learn new things about blogging!

    Thanks,
    Julia

  2. Hi Brooke,

You note "If you are the type of person like me and don't feel comfortable posting audio or video comments a tool like Google Docs or Evernote is probably more suitable for your PLE. I don't see Voice Thread bringing any additional benefits to me personally as a learner. "
This is good analysis - thank you for including why it wouldn't be part of your PLE.

On another note, good idea to use the image as a link.

  3. Hi Brooke,

I hit send to quickly, the link for the image takes me to a larger version of the image. Is this what is intended or should it take me to your VoiceThread post?

    1. Hi Professor,

My image does not have a link! I believe blogger just allows you to click the image to view a larger version of it. That is how it has been for my previous blog posts too. I like the idea of linking the image though, maybe I'll give that a try in the upcoming weeks!

      Thank you!
      Brooke

  4. Thank you Brooke for the follow up. I thought I would ask as some people were using photos as links in their blogs.
